“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2).

In ancient times, those would look to the hills or mountains for help. But our help doesn’t come from Creation in times of trouble such as the mountains, which are majestic, beautiful and peaceful but rather from the Creator — The Lord is our source of strength and protection. Rather than focus on our difficulties, we can look to God to sustain and deliver us. The Lord is not only the one who helps but the Creator of everything, the heavens and the earth. This emphasizes the vastness of God’s power. The same God who shaped the universe offers help and protection for His people in time of need and trouble, an active decision we make in where and who we lift our eyes to for help. It’s shows a posture of dependence and faith through our trials, struggles and circumstances. It encourages us to put our trust not in temporary, worldly solutions but in God. No earthly power no matter how strong or reliable it seems can compare to the help we receive from God. The Psalmist who wrote the verse was confident in knowing He who created all is always ready to help. We can know that God is always watching over us and we don’t have to do it in our own strength. God has all the power of creation at His command and His power is limitless. When we pray and truly seek Him, we can take refuge in Him and His constant help and promises. When you feel lost, weak or unsure - just lift your eyes to God.
